Project Appleseed Full Distance Clinic in Park City!

Post by Unbridled Liberty » Tue May 14, 2013 10:19 pm

Announcing: The first Project Appleseed Full Distance clinic ever held in Kentucky! This is your chance to translate the skills you have learned at 25 yards to actual distances, shooting full-size AQT targets at 100-200-300 and 400 yards for a Rifleman score. You will also be able to get DOPE (Data on Previous Engagements) for YOUR rifle. Get your sights "calibrated" for range-finding use, determine how many clicks-per-minute your sights are, find out the Come-Ups for your rifle/ammo/sight configuration, all the way out to 500 yards. There may also be an opportunity to shoot steel at 1000 yards! There will only be 30 spaces for this event, which is being hosted by Rockcastle Shooting Center at Park Mammoth Resort, America's Ultimate Shooting Destination Resort!

NOTE: You must first attend a regular Project Appleseed clinic before attending this Full Distance shoot. So if you have not yet attended an Appleseed clinic, do so ASAP!

See the picture below. Welcome to Thunder Valley. This is the range where our upcoming Full Distance Appleseed Clinic will be held at Rockcastle Shooting Center. Appropriately named, IMO, for the entrance requirement during our clinic will be a real battle rifle. No rimfire rifles allowed. Just real rifles that make, well, thunder.

The AQT (Army Qualification Test) will be shot at full-size human silhouette targets at distances of 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards. Only hits count. No 10 ring. No 9 ring. No X ring. Just a black silhouette. Make a hole in the black, anywhere, and it's scored as a hit. Because a hit in the black would make a bad guy's day, um, bad. But we will just be shooting at paper bad guys. Easy-Peasy.

Now look way out near the edge of the far tree line. See that arrow pointing down? That is the 1000 yard target backer. On day 3 of the clinic, if there is time, and if you ask the Shoot Boss real nice-like, he might let you shoot at a steel target out there at 1000 yards. That might be fun.

We will only have 12 spots. 2 are already taken. What's that? You want to bring the spouse and kids but they don't want to shoot? No problem. They can explore nearby Mammoth Cave. Or go horseback riding. Or play golf. Or do tons of other things while you make thunder at Thunder Valley. And then you all can sit around the campfire in the evening making S'mores. Or other stuff. It will be fun. And educational.

One catch...you have to first attend a regular Project Appleseed clinic before you do this one. Because you have to learn your Steady Hold Factors, use of the GI web sling, the 6 Steps to Firing the Shot, and Natural Point of Aim. Otherwise, if you just go to the Full Distance Clinic without learning the fundamentals first, you will simply be converting money into noise. And anybody can do that. A Rifleman converts money into hits. Not everybody can do that. Actually only about 10% qualify as a Rifleman on the AQT. Even less as a centerfire Rifleman. How about you?
