How do you store your mags?

Post by Vividia » Sun Oct 23, 2016 2:08 pm

OK i thought about putting this thread in semi-auto handguns, but i also have rifles using mags. So I was going to put it into the rifle section, but I also have rimfire mags. I gave up trying to classify my question and put it here. So...

How do you store your mags?

I have dozens of mags for a bunch of guns, as noted above. Since I like to have AT LEAST 4 or 5 mags per gun, and way more than that for common ones like 1911 or AR-15, they seem like they are multiplying like bunnies around here!

I keep reorganizing things in the gun room, but I haven't hit on a satisfactory, efficient storage method that maximizes storage space while making them easily identifiable and accessible. Feels like i am always rooting for what i want. Not effective.

I am looking for ideas for storage. Got one?

I don't have a storage system, in fact I tend to have haphazard storage of "stuff". Only if Mrs Cranky or the state of KY requires it , is there orignizeation.

For those areas I too use shoe boxes, especially the plastic one that you buy the dollar store.
Some magazines are loaded and some are not, as that really does not matter to the springs.

I have heard of people using the commercial type of ammunition can or regular ammo cans and have seen magnetic tool strips bolted to walls to storage the most used ones.

You can get metal bins and plastic ones of all shapes at the dollar tree too.

Get whatever bin/container that fits most stuff and keep it the same from now on. My stuff goes in various ammo cans or stacked on a shelf.

This is what I am doing and it's still under construction.

Step 1: Get a safe place to put your stuff.

Step 2: Coat the walls in Akro Mills louvered panels.

Step 3: Get some gun racks from Secure It Tactical and totes from Akro Mills and decorate.

Are the handgun racks tilted from the weight of the handguns? How much further till they fall you think? I like the idea but the handgun racks tilted like that scare me a bit.

Yes, they did tilt when I put the guns on them. :( Staging them for this pic was the first time that I tested them.

Plan B: Once I get it where I like it, a small sheet metal screw to lock it in place. W/o a gun on it, the rubber coated rod points up.

you realize there aren't enough walls in my house for that right :o

I am like Todd, but I use clear Tupperware containers to store similar mags. size of container dependent on number of mags.

Main mags for me are Glock, 1911, AR15

I keep my chest rig loaded with ar and Glock and keep another 5 of each loaded in safe. The rest are in those clear Rubbermaid drawers made for like college kids. 1911 I have 4 loaded in case with gun in the safe and the rest in drawer, rimfire mags there is 1 loaded in gun and the rest in a drawer. Random pistols get the same system as 1911.
