Ford's new Aluminum Beds......

Doesn't fit in the other categories? Maybe just want to post up some humor or random happening? This is the place for it.

Ford's new Aluminum Beds......

Post by Rem700 » Wed Jun 15, 2016 3:31 pm

Might not be the best material to make a bed out of. Or maybe the video is BS. Just some food for thought.

Yeah, but which one can make out of the garage without breaking down?
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

not that it matters, but the 'real person' with the dark hair and beard in the black t-shirt I have seen in other commercials...as an actor...

I saw those. In all honesty, anyone who uses their truck as a truck has a bed liner or bed coating. I admit to being a Ford guy, but this is a non-issue.

I agree with the bedliner or coating but im not sure Linex would hold up if the material under it weren't solid enough to stop punctures.

You have obviously never had a linex or rhino lined bed.

Was discussed with a couple of engineers at Ford.

GM, just like any other auto company, buys a few of each competitors vehicles to test and see what they can use to their advantage or to see how they can compete.
So GM takes this truck you see in the test and they dumped sharp edged blocks, unlike any blocks you can buy at Lowes and they dumped them not once, but seven times before they punctured the bed. Same with the tool box, throw it a few times at the same spot and see what happens. I asked them why didn't Ford attack back about the commercial being a sham? They said "When you are the leader in truck sales and the competitor is grasping at straws, its best to let it go. Not to mention that in 2018 GM will be using the same grade Aluminum to build their trucks with." One of the guys also said "The new F150 has been out for about two years, how come we have not had one come into any dealership with this type of damage?"
So, take that how you want and if you see a new F150 in a parking lot somewhere, just look in the bed and that will tell you all you need to know.

Dont get me wrong Linex is bad ass shit and pretty much the pinnacle of bed liners but i still think that without something as tough as steel under it, that it just wouldnt hold up. I have seen it get gouged and almost "reform" itself to the gouge.

Again, hype by GM.

If it was shit than the 2017 Super Duty wouldn't be going to all aluminum next month.

My truck was spayed with Line X in 2001 and it has hauled concrete blocks, gravel, dirt, trees, etc...
and the Line X looks just as good now as the day it was spayed.
Another Line X plug: On 90 degree plus days Line X doesn't get soft. The Rhino liner stuff does. Line X is used by the military to coat some of their buildings to keep debris from exploding outward.
But yea, any truck that gets abused and doesn't have any kind of bed liner, it wont take long to get fubared.
