Machine gun shoot

Post by kyswede » Fri Apr 10, 2015 8:53 pm

Did anyone make it to Knob Creek today? Wondering how muddy the parking was in case I decide to go tomorrow.

I was planning on going, but I have to work late now. If I make it, it'llbe a quick trip.

Just left the shoot. Lots and lots of people. We didn't get a chance to see the parking areas. We had to park out on 44 as they weren't letting others into the parking areas. It was a long walk with several over priced vendors. I did get a few ammo cans though.

I got there at 6pm and the sherrif/deputy would not let anyone in. Said you had to park on 44. I told him I could not walk that far. Showed him my handicap placard and he told me "no handicap parking left". So I went home. I spent over $1k there last April. Today $0.

I may email the vendors I buy from and tell then about the business they lost today. No excuse for the shitty parking situation after all these years.

Parking was backed up because the lower lot is/was a lake.

Water down and around the bridge had to be 5 feet deep easy. The shuttle bus wasn't going the back way to pick folks up. It had to come out on the road to get to the other side of the range. Lots of parking was unavailable this year. I don't think I've ever parked that far away.

I went, got there around 1145 after sitting an hour in traffic in Louisville (and on the way home, westbound Interstate was closed around MM 23 due to tractor trailer laying across the road). I think I must have been one of the last few let in to park and only because of 4wd capability in the SUV. Closest I have parked in years but I wondered why all were parking out on 44. Had I been in the big truck with 4wd I could have gotten closer and in the lot to the right of the pay gate entrance.

I was surprised at the crowd given that the NRA conference was this weekend plus a couple of big gun shows to the west. I don't think the money being spent was that down. I went to a couple ammo places and they were sold out of pallets of some of the ammo just like every year. I would go again tomorrow but I am hitting the somerset gun show instead.

I went and parked in the lower parking lot after driving through a creek. Didn't want to walk through a bunch of water and got lucky found a spot right before the lot. When I left the water had risen all the way almost to the back if my truck.

Went and didn't buy a single thing.

I took my 3 boys this year. We arrived early ( 9:15 or so ) and parked at the top of the hill. My vehicle is not 4wd and I had no problem getting in or out. I had a friend that arrived around 12:30 and he had to park before the bridge on the main road. There was maybe 7-10 spots in the lot that I was in. He was told that if he didn't have 4wd, he wasn't getting in. They walked in, man was he pissed! I had already purchased 8lbs. of military grade powder, 500 rds of 17 HMR, some stripper clips, throwing stars for the boys, 2lbs of CFE223 and a couple of shooting racks. All in all, I thought the shoot was pretty good. The boys enjoyed it and I will go back. I am an early morning person, so getting there early is no problem for me. Like someone else had stated, a lot of the pallets of ammo, were selling out quickly. I did see some good prices on reman 9mm and 45. I held off tho, didn't want to carry them out. LOL!

I normally don't ever go on Saturday now as a lot of stuff is sold out. I always go on Friday, has been well worth it in the past and I am told I missed some deals by friends out there. Earlier on Saturday is better though, Louisville traffic and having to wait for the contractor didn't let that happen. I have found that Sunday is a good day to go as well. People tend to not want to haul stuff home and will deal a little better like at most shows.

And the shooting is always good.

Usually you buy it and get a Rent a Mule guys to take you to your car door. Many places will hold it until you are ready to leave. Some will loan you a cart if needed.
