Gun boxes and factory cases, do you keep them???

Doesn't fit in the other categories? Maybe just want to post up some humor or random happening? This is the place for it.

Gun boxes and factory cases, do you keep them???

Post by BK Meyers » Sat Feb 14, 2015 6:02 pm

Re: the factory cases and the boxes that new firearms come in

Do you keep them?? I do (I'm kind of a packrat sometimes).

It surprises me how many used firearms are for sale that do not include the factory case. As an example I was checking out a Ruger GP100 on Armslist. Seller did not have the original case. These cases work well for storage, are not easy to find, are not cheap when found.

So, do you keep your factory cases/boxes??

I try to keep mine. I just stick them up in the attic. Out of sight and dry. YMMV.

I keep mine for some reason.

I hoard, and don't sell, so the boxs are just for me.

Keep mine. Old smiths and Colts are worth more with the box.

I keep them, it's amazing how many people want them when you sell the gun.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Keep mine too, even cardboard ones. Those get put in acid free bags.....How pathetic is that? (Actually, I just have a ton of the bags anyway, may as well put them to use.)

Lol, I keep them, way too many of them. Sometimes I even keep the box if I get rid of the gun. Some guns it doesn't make a difference. I have been known to buy a box or two cheap here and there and even on ebay for a gun if I wanted one.

I keep them stacked in a corner of the basement.

Don't know *why* I keep them, but I do. Maybe if one of my great-grandkids decides to cash in when they become collector's items.

I keep boxes for everything including firearms, electronics and whatever else. I still have my old Sega in the original box as well as my SNES, NES, ps1, ps2 and my PS3 and ps4.

Well I am the odd man out.

I don't keep cardboard unless it is something that might be collectible. If it is plastic I keep it.

Had a Mosin that cam in a generic cardboard box- dumped it.

I save the cases and boxes too. I also save empty ammo boxes. I am a certified pack rat. Never throw something away, you may need it tomorrow.

I'm about as far as you can possibly get from being a packrat, but this is one thing I actually do keep.

I keep all factory boxes for firearms, even the paperboard ones. Most are serialized to the guns, and it can be a quick way to get the EXACT model number of the gun when the differences are very subtle. I have kept everything I have bought, but a factory box, especially one serialized to the gun, enhances the value if I ever do actually sell something. That box can make up to a $100 difference in resale value, depending on the gun.

I keep the boxes for the accessories like glass, too. It's a convenient way to keep all the small parts and instructions specific to each item together. Again, if I ever sell something, I am sure the buyer would appreciate having the box. I would.
