Officer shoots off finger after clerk hands him loaded gun

There is so much wrong with this I don't know where to start. The fact that the gun store has loaded weapons in the case as well as a LEO or anyone for that matter treating a gun like it is not loaded let alone not even checking to see if it is unloaded. It's a wonder that no one was killed.

Whoever took the gun in - Fail
Whoever put the gun on display - Fail
The clerk showing the gun - Fail
The ex-cop for not checking himself - Fail

So much fail, on sooooo many levels. A LEO w/30 years experience who doesn't automatically check a weapon as soon as he touches it is a danger to himself & the community. Granted, the store clerk should also have checked it before handing it over.

Had a large very well known on line gun retailer ship a used Saiga that came off their used gun rack to my FFL with a a round chambered and a fully loaded (5rd) mag. FFL about crapped his pants when I opened the box on his counter and as always the first I do out of habit upon picking up a gun is check the chamber and out falls a round. FFL then preceded to call them and chew them out. It had been sitting there in the store chambered before I ordered it off their website waiting for someone to walk up, pick up from the used rack, and pull the trigger.

The store should have their FFL suspended, but they owe the cop NOTHING! Unfortunately, he will be awarded millions, receive regular disability, and become a general parasite of society... SMH

In this case I don't think I could say the shop should be completely clear of any wrong doing law suit wise. Was it the cops fault he put his hand in front of the gun and pulled the trigger, yes. But there's definitely some fault of negligence on the store for not making sure the guns on its shelf are clear, especially before handing them to a potential customer.

The cop should have known better, but how many people walk into a gun store who have no training and have never even held a gun before...the first thing most of them want to do is pull the trigger.

Agreed, negligence on both sides. If it was joe schmoe customer then i would put more blame on the store, however since he is a "professional" (ill use that loosely) he gets half the blame.
