Need some help from you car guys (or gals)

Post by dbh » Sat Mar 15, 2014 12:11 pm

I have a 2010 F-150. Yesterday, it started blowing hot air out the 2 passenger side vents, even with AC on. Drivers side is fine. What could it be and can I fix it?

TIA

Sounds like the damper control (used to be vacuum controlled from the vent switch on the dash) has either formed a crack in one of the vacuum lines or the vacuum actuator has failed.

I don't think the 2010 Ford has vacuum controls. Sounds like a failed blend door actuator. They are strictly electric motor driven now days.
A cop stopped me on the street and said "we're looking for a mugger who fits your description" , so I said "okay I'll do it".

Sounds like a blend door issue to me too.

I replaced the actuator in my truck not long ago.

They may be electric actuators, now, but it would still seem to me to be either the switch or the actuator itself.

9 times out of 10 it's the actuator. In my experience.

Yep either blend door or blend door actuator. Most of the time as ProCroation has said its the blend door motor. You have dual climate control. Some are easy some the dash has to come out. I have found an aftermarket business that makes kit to where the dash doesnt have to be removed on most apps with dual climate control.

Blend doors break pretty easy. Turn that switch too fast and you can actually hear it snap.

Do share. I'm interested in that business name. always good to have alternatives.

Ford Windstars are the worst about breaking blend doors. I mean Ford is bad about it in general but man I couldn't count how many I've replaced on the Windstar vans. Lol.

Anyway seeing as it's a Ford F150 you can almost guarantee it's the actuator or door. I vote actuator.

It was the actuator. Paid $350 to get it fixed.
