Luminox watches... are they THAT good?

Post by CCRBUM » Sat Apr 07, 2012 6:19 pm

hey guys I'm in need of a watch.. lookin at either a G-shock or a luminox.. I've had a G-shock and it last me a few years.. not a bad watch though.. Never owned a Luminox and looking at the 0201 blackout.. seems like a solid watch and it's more aesthetically pleasing to me... anyone have experience with them? I need something that can stand up to the fire/ems service.. I'm not planning on taking it into a raging structure fire but still need it to be rugged. sooooo.. opinions please!

Old joke

Q: Why don't you need to give a woman a watch as a present?

A: There's already a clock on the stove.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

I have had a 3051 blackout for the past year. The only problem so far is that I've caught it on something hard and it pulled the band pin out of the case. I popped it back in. But with a plastic case, if it gets pulled out too much, it will tear the hole out and never hold.
I would buy another. The tritium is really bright.

thanks for the responses guys. I gone with the G-shock this time... next watch I buy I think will be a luminox.. I really like them but I got the G-shock for $106 so its a tad cheaper than the luminox. Now the last G-shock I had didn't last as long as I felt it should have so I'll have to see with this one..

i usually buy the 10 dollar throw away watches from wall mart. they last about a year or so. but just the other day while in Kohls i saw a Gruin watch on sale. starting price was 89 dollars had several markdowns and was only 20 bucks so i decided to buy it. When I got to the register it came up 17 dollars after my senipr citz. discount

Never had a Luminox but a quality constricted watch is well worth the money you spend on them. I've been looking at the Citizen SkyHawk or whatever they call it. Best bang for the buck I've found is with the Invicta watches. Can be had for under $100 and you have the option of never needing a battery. If you are not accustom to a heavy watch you may want to see what you think of some of them as it is often a pretty big change for some people. Choice for a dress watch for me would be a museum series from Movado.

Finally retired my Vector after 10 years of abuse.
Will be buying another soon.

I use my GShock at work and for officiating football and its probably the best digital watch I have owned.
Citizen Promaster is my favorite dress watch followed by my Invecta.
