Please help me dispose of this flag

Post by KYgundude » Mon Jun 10, 2013 9:18 pm

The flag at our complex looks horrible. It is beat on by age and wind etc. We have taken it down to put up a new one. I volunteered to dispose of it properly. I know there is something you can do. Something like take it to a VFW place or something where they will dispose it with the respect and honor it deserves.

I live in Buechel and need to put this flag to rest properly. Can someone please guide me?

My JROTC MSGT always told me to burn it in private, correctly folded and respectfully..... Last one I disposed of I made a nice little fire and placed it on the top after I got it good and hot, then I sat back by the fire and enjoyed a drink..........

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

If you have a local scout troop most of them love that sort of thing. We did flag burning ceremonies on quite a few camping trips

I have several worn out flags I need to dispose of properly. Thinling about going to local VFW.

BIGC got it exactly right. There is no single "standard" procedure for burning a flag; the only requirement is that it be done with respect.

As others have stated, a local VFW, American Legion, or JROTC unit (i know the instructors at Southern, Eastern, Butler and Male if you need a POC) would be happy to help you out with this.

It is safely in the hands of a Boy Scout troop that will put her to rest properly.

Thanks all!!
