Word. I can respect your views there. I am of the opinion that many ppl truly need assistance in the form of food stamps/welfare/etc. And I'm ok with those that receive those benefits using them how they see fit.

The tax money that pays for their food stamps is tiny compared to the billions of dollars that are bilked By the wealthy elite.

I've known plenty of ppl that have ebt cards and many times they don't have bank Accts, so all of their money is kept In cash only.
And I can guarantee you that for every one you know that is honestly in need I know another one that sells that high end meat in the parking lot at half price for money to feed their drug habit. I even know local churches that buy this meat for their BBQ's from people they are know are going straight to the crack/meth dealer.

If you can't pass a drug test, you should get zero assistance. That alone would eliminate many of the people abusing the system. I don't even care if you're getting high, it's your body but if you can afford to get high, you don't need to be fed off other peoples money. If you can buy lottery tickets...you don't need food stamps.

Sorry man but buying better quality is a luxury you should have to work to afford....same concept in my mind as a wellfare recipient driving a beemer instead of a honda cause someone else is paying for it.

I think a lot of people that use them dont actually need them. They need to learn to live within their means and not try to buy top of the line. I know people that should definitely be candidates for assistance but they are to proud and they make due on far far less than what these people are given. Have I ever used assistance? Yes, I am on unemployment. Did I run out and go for foodstamps, and any other help we could get? No. I budgeted, cut bills, couponed and anything else that I can to help keep us from going for .gov assistance.

I have been in homes that were on EBT, Welfare, kids on Kchip and the first thing I noticed is that both parents had smart phones, the cable was full package with all the movie channels, and the internet in the house was top speed fastest packages.. Most people, especially in KY spend the assistance that is supposed to be helping them survive, on luxuries instead of necessities.

I know there are many out there that do need it, and I do not begrudge them for seeking and receiving assistance, but I have a definite issue with those who receive help and play the game from every angle to take more than they need.

That one sentiment could start an entire other thread. There are wealthy elite here that do bilk money and make their money off the blood sweat and tears of others for sure. But the majority (IIRC) of the rich in the US are of new money. People that have come from where we are at and busted ass to get where they are now. For the most part the top % of wealth in this country pay's the majority of the taxes that support those that sit on their ass and do nothing but bilk the system. Something like 85% of todays millionaires are all new money that have worked to get where they are.

I believe it was WLJ posted at one point a graph showing that welfare was the largest chunk of the US budget coming in over 500 billion a year. Instead of handing out more money to people to stay home, give breaks to corporations to build new business in the US, give breaks to those already here to hire more people, raise tarrifs to detour the flood of cheap goods coming into our markets that kill our jobs.

Welfare would not be a necessity if the .gov did not try to breed dependancy in newer generations.....

"Welfare" last year cost just under $500 billion. It wasn't the largest chunk of the budget, it was fourth--behind Defense, Health Care, and Pensions, which together were just over $2.6 trillion.

The biggest single chunk of Welfare was unemployment.

I'm strongly opposed to giving assistance to people who don't need it, just as I'm opposed to bankruptcy protection for those people and corporations who spent more than they could afford to.

The poor and the rich alike suck the government teat.
