Post by Rebel Panda » Mon Apr 02, 2012 9:35 pm

Thats the question.
Should I buy a Glock 17 or not?
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Only thing it has to be 9mm

Can't go wrong with a G17. XDs and M&Ps are fine as well. Go handle all three and see which feels best in your hand. If you end up not liking the Glock, you can always sell a G17.

I mean I haven't herd any thing negative about them from anyone who owns one. The only real bad thing I've herd about em was that they are over priced and "ugly" and that is coming from people who love XD's and 1911's. I like XD's Love 1911's but I don't own any of the 3. The only handgun I own is my Taurus pt 24/7 Pro. So I want something on the higher end now. If I ever get a .45 its going to be a 1911. But 9mm I'll look at any. I am mainly looking at Glocks and XD's now.

I'd hold a bunch of different guns first and then decide which feels best. I think Glocks are fantastic guns but they just don't feel good in my hand. I'd try holding an M&P, XDM and a Sig ( Kahr and Kel-Tec if this is for CC )before you make a final decision. You wont go wrong with any of them.

lol don't have the money for a Sig. M&P I've seen a few for around my price range. XD's nd Glocks are going to be around my end of the money line. The sub compact glocks I can't stand. The Kel Tecs actually fit me pretty well, The Kahr's too. I think I'm going to hold a few Glocks and XD's then decide what I wanna put on layaway.

Either is good choice. I am partial to Glocks because that is what I carry and shoot well. I like the feel of 'em. I can take my XDm out and make really tight groups, but they are extremely low and left of center. that is all me, not the gun. I am so instinctively used to my Glock that most other weapons just don't feel right. I can slow down with my XDm and make every shot with a conscious effort and get nice groups center mass.

Get what feels right to you. For some of us that is a Glock. For some of us it ain't.

lol WOW under 300? I'd ask what did you do to get it that cheap but I'm afraid of the answer :llama:
and I glanced at an FNP today at tilfords (At least I think it was it was only a glance.) My buddy bought him a Glock 16 at Knob this past friday and I think I got bit by the glock bug... I'll have to shoot it this week before he heads back to Korea to finish up his service.

Go the extra mile and rent one of each, don't just hold 'em. Put some round through 'em.

Glock 17 is by far the best 9mm pistol I have ever owned.
#2 would be the Beretta 92FS I have parked right beside the G 17 in the safe.

I have a Gen 1 Glock 20 from the early 1990s that I still like a lot. I recently added a Lone Wolf stainless extended barrel. For rugged reliability, it's hard to beat a Glock, although I have nothing bad to say about the XD line, either.

I've been wanting to buy another Glock lately... maybe a Gen 4 G22, with a drop in barrel for 9mm.

The Glocks aren't too good for CCW in my opinion, but that's a very subjective matter. YMMV. I like back pocket carry, 24/7/365. For that, I bought a Kahr PM9 and I like it a lot. I've carried if for five years, and I recently bought a Crimson Trace laser for it, and now I like it even more.

It'd be great if you could compare a few pistols that meet your basic needs to see which is most comfortable in your hand. Try some instinctive pointing - get a good retinal image of a target that's maybe 15 feet away, then close your eyes and raise the handgun to point at the target, open your eyes and see how close you are. Dry fire and see if you have trouble keeping the sights on target while squeezing the trigger. Of course, if you can shoot it, you'll get a lot better feel for what works for you and what doesn't, but that may not be an option.

Get the Glock.

I have many handguns, but my preferred carry is the G26.

Get the Glock.

Yes, they're ugly; yes, they feel like a 2x4 when you grip one for the first time.

But they *work*.

If you like 1911's then you will probably like the XD due to almost the same grip angle, choose the one that fits you best

GET A GLOCK ! I have owned many handguns and the ones I like are my glocks and my 1911. I carried my glocks while being a leo and never had nothing better besides my 1911.

so from what I gather I should save up and get a Glock :llama: I mean I will try out an XD and I will try out the Glock as well. What ever 9mm fits my hand better I'll get. Thanks Fellas.

Which one "fits your hand better" is irrelevant. Get the one you *shoot* better.
