So I purchased a 98 Jeep Cherokee. The floor pans under the driver and passenger need to be replaced, and the rockers also. As I am accumulating parts and the needed tools to tackle that job ( which I will be asking for insight also). What can I spray on the areas in question and also the frame and other components that will neutralize the corrosion and stop it? Anybody have firsthand knowledge of anything that they have used, which I do not need a license to purchase or have to take to a shop? Something I can easily do myself.

I have used wire wheel and naval jelly to clean up rust. After that you have to paint it.

There's only one real solution which is cut it out and replace. I've had mixed results with most rust neutralizers. Are you welding the new panels in or using something like panel bond?

I have a spot welder if you need one.

I second Marcus. Only real fix is remove and replace. After you do that, make sure to protect it with something. Be it POR-15/chassis saver or the more simple and MUCH less messy 3M (or whoever else) Cavity Wax. That is what the factories did use and have since stopped. Hence the reason Ford, Chevy and Dodge's doors bottoms, cab corners, rockers, ect are all rusty in 5 years or less.

I plan on welding the new panels in once I get to that step.

What I am wanting to do right now is kind of stop the process of rusting of all the components if possible that I could spray. I am not ready to tackle that job right now.

I'm going to buy a new piece every paycheck so it's going to be a few months assembling everything.

How bad are the rockers, door sklls, etc.?

The rockers will need to be totally replaced, I found complete weld-ins that are not too expensive, under $100 each so I want to go that route and not just worry about cutting out cancer.

Oh man, I do not envy you at all. I did that years ago to my ‘96 XJ. All four floor pans had to be replaced. The rears were scary as the leaf spring front mounts were about to pull through.
It was a MONSTER job- I would not do it again.

Make sure you weld in bracing before you cut anything so the body doesn’t flex downward. Even a little bit is going to show when you close the doors.

When you did yours, did you use any references? Any certain videos, people you suggest watching on how to have a successful rebuild?

After crawling around under even more from changing all the fluids and giving it a more thorough look, I see WAY more rust than I did before I purchased it. Which at the time I guess I was blinded by the newness and the want.

I am not regretting it by no means, I knew from the beginning it was going to be a huge undertaking, and figured it would be lots and lots of work. My carport will be a huge mess, just wish I had a garage. Guess that will also be motivation to keep it going as it will be right there in sight all the time.

Thanks for the link. Yeah most of the few jeep forums seem like ghost towns now. I am not about to hop on FB just for that, I cannot stand that site.
