I have always done money orders for tax stamps. Works well.

There is a maximum amount on money orders that post offices wont fill. I want to say it's like $1k per day IIRC before they will report it to higher. When I bought my machine gun I had to split it up because of this.

If at all possible, send a personal check. Its easier to track and you can see when it gets cashed. That way you are sure they have it.

To track a money order you have to go to your local post office and complete a form 6401 and pay a fee of $3.15. The post office will then tell you if the money order been has been cashed.

I have paid mine with personal checks with no problems. As said bfore, this really the best way to know when they have it and have cashed the check. I can't see any reason for questions to arise for paying taxes, even voluntary ones, with a personal check.

I was told by the post master the reason 1k MO raise flags is because of the "War on Drugs" and possible money laundering.

Stupid, I know.

I used Money gram from Wal Mart and was able to track it online for free to see when it was cashed.

And trust me, you don't have to worry about when they are gonna cash it. It may take 5-7 months to get back to you, but they will cash that check within days of the forms showing up

Exactly. I'd like to see my forms processed with the same efficiency as my check.
