Suppressors and accuracy

Post by mtmetzger » Sat Mar 10, 2012 8:30 pm

I want a tack driver 10/22 and I would like it to be suppressed. Does a suppressor have any affect on accuracy?

Far from an expert, but read up alot before my first purchase and some claim improved accuracy on some set-ups.....

Def wont hurt it any....

Suppressors and accuracy

Post by BlackRifle » Sun Mar 11, 2012 10:54 am

All the suppressed guns i have shot (22, 223- not alot admittedly) had no degredation in accuracy. I only shot an AR out to about 200 yards suppressed, so it wasnt a long distance but its POA did not seem to change. I noticed no differance in accuracy on the 22s that i fired. I even had an opproutunity to shoot a suppressed race gun 10/22. It was a sub moa gun before the can and after. Hope that helps.

I agree with everyone. No change in accuracy just a shift in point of impact with my 10-22

Gunning badger is right. You may have a point of impact shift but accuracy will remain consistent with a quality can.

One thing to remember is that if you are noticing grouping extremely out of the ordinary check your can and make sure you're not having baffle strikes.

Expert here
The suppressor itself will not change accuracy
POI will/ could change because of barrel harmonics

A rigide barrel( short, thick better- long , thick ok) will compensate for that.
Baffle strikes are caused by miss alignment or crocked threads to center of bore.

Baffle strikes are pretty much my nightmare. I obsessively check for thread cocentricity on all my hosts.
