Romans 13 and Bearing Arms

Post by Harb » Sun Apr 07, 2013 10:04 am

For those of us who walk in faith, this issue is perhaps the biggest hurdle to living in America: at what point is our faith no longer compatible with the Constitution? We understand the words of Paine and Jefferson, but closely examine ourselves to make sure we're striving to live in accordance with God's word. But unlike many other issues, there is no simply-worded command of "thou shalt resist the tyrant where he may be found." It forces us to look deep within ourselves to see who we're really trying to serve.

I found this to be very interesting.

There is no conflict
You can not separate one chapter of the Bible and base a doctrine on it.

The Christian faith is the whole word togather.

And not all is a literal translation.

You have a right to self defense as the Word of The Lord allows for it.
Jesus himself says his "followers will take up the sword"

And Thou shall not kill is not true to the original Hebrew is mistranslated.
Kill is really murder.

Agreed. The Libertarian principles that our Constitution was founded on, born of the Enlightenment, states that "Man is free, and cannot even volunteer for slavery duty, because God has a prior ownership interest." Faith and the founding docs are not really in conflict, IMO. Interesting read, tho. Thanks for the link, Harb.

I'm not religious but grew up that way. One of my favorite passages was always Luke 22:36

He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

I thought this would be a good thing to highlight. It's a strong point of contention for many would-be patriots of religious backgrounds.
