So this is how they define 'most livable' city?

Want to discuss politics, religious affairs, legal items, this would be the place. Keep the discourse civil please.

So this is how they define 'most livable' city?

Post by WLJ » Thu Jun 14, 2012 10:12 am

So let me get this straight, they give you an award for "most livable" city for having the most volunteers? Isn't this kind of like having a beauty contest and giving the award to the one with the biggest purse?

Maybe I should e-mail them this
liv·a·ble [liv-uh-buhl]
adjective
1. suitable for living in; habitable; comfortable:
2.worth living; endurable:
3. that can be lived with; companionable (often used in combination with with ):

Louisville and West Palm Beach, Fla., were named the “most livable” cities in America at the U.S. Conference of Mayors this week.

Both cities won first place in the organization's 2012 City Livability Awards Program.

The award, announced Thursday at a conference in Orlando, recognizes Mayor Greg Fischer's “Give a Day” program, which challenged Louisville to set the world’s record for volunteering and public service by having at least 55,000 volunteers and “acts of kindness” in a week, a news release said.

Acts by volunteers ranged from writing letters to troops to reading to homeless children to donating food and clothing.

A first place award also went to Mayor Geraldine Muoio of West Palm Beach, where the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach created a year-long, grant-funded, skills and career motivating program called Career Catalyst, the news release said.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Personally I don't think Louisville is a bad place to live. It's actually been my favorite place to live of all of the cities I have been able to call home so far in my life.

I love living in Louisville. Born and raised here and honestly, I don't think I'll ever move very far away from here.

I do love louisville and enjoy living here, but that is only because of my family and friends. For the most part people are assholes, cant drive for shit, live in there own little world where they are king/queen, weather is a joke, politics suck balls, etc etc etc......but that pretty much is the same no matter what larger city you live in so ill stay for now. Eventually we will move out of Lou metro to oldham co or just somewhere with a few less people to piss me off.

If you lived there all your life so it is understandable why you would like it. I liked my hometown too and would love to move back even though it is vastly different today. I think it helps to have moved away and have something to compare to. My office has a promotion opportunity in Louisville soon. No one in my office wants to move there or to have to be there everyday.

I have pondered living in the boonies, and probably will at some point in the future. Just want to make sure I can get enough land if I do it.

Exactly, if I'm gonna do it I want to do it right. Enough land for shooting/hunting, riding atv's etc. And a suitable house to boot. Some day!

The more out in the boonies that I am, the better. City life in general is not for me, it's not just Louisville.

I lived here during high school (Southern, 7th-12th grade) plus 2 years @ UEI for ASET degree, then moved back to Texas where I lived for the next 31 years (I was also born there, El Paso), getting 2 engineering BS degrees at U of H . I love Texas, it is my home, & I miss it. Living here isn't nearly as bad as many, many other places I''ve lived or visited.

If I could afford the move, I'd go back to Texas in a heartbeat.

I love living here too but these awards aren't really all they're cracked up to be. Louisvilleky.gov was runner up in the best government website in 2010 and 2011 IIRC. What I found out was that you can't win 2 years in a row. So it's kind of stupid really.
