I find it odd he carried a gun in truck/car and left it in there to get out and confront a guy who was visibly attacking/shooting at a cop. It needs to be on you, not sort of with you.

It was at a bad wreck. It's not uncommon for people to pull up to a wreck and get out to see if they can help. I don't think it's odd at all for him to get out not knowing what the hell is going on before realizing that it's not what it initially looked like.

I didn't think of it like that. The story made it sound like the first thing the civilian saw was the officer having his head smashed into the pavement. At least, that's how I read it. We are all different for sure but I would figure that a gun forum and people that actually carry guns would have them on their person and not just laying in their car. I have car guns in all the gloveboxes and carry guns.
