Niners QB Kaepernick refuses to stand for anthem in protest

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is refusing to stand for the national anthem before games because he believes the United States oppresses African Americans and other minorities.
Kaepernick sat on the team's bench Friday night during the anthem before the Niners played host to the Green Bay Packers in an exhibition game. He later explained his reasoning in an interview with NFL Media .
''I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,'' Kaepernick said. ''To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.''
The 49ers issued a statement after Pro Football Talk initially reported on Kaepernick's stand, saying that Americans have the right to protest or support the anthem.

This. There are those that disrespect the flag, our country, our way of life, and are well within their rights to do so, just as we are well within our rights to disrespect the turd we have at the helm right now. In other lands, we may have been "disappeared" by now, or living in hiding.
I'm a 49ers fan, and have been for over 40 years. I've never cared much for Kaepernick, and even less now, but still, they're my team. I hope he gets benched.
Along the same lines, I love my country, even if we do have a douchebag in the White House right now. I haven't moved to Canada yet.

I till his sponsors cut off his money he will continue to disrespect the people that have sacrificed to give him the freedom to express his views in such a public manner. Simply refuse to support any organization that sends him a check and send them an email stating why they will no longer get your money. Stand together as Americans and express ourselves through the dollars we don't spend. Let's face it. We can say he's an asshole all we want. Unless our money backs up our mouth, our words are useless.
