Shotgun plugs, clay pigeons and the law?

Post by ProCroation » Sat Jun 28, 2014 9:38 pm

I'm at a family event all day today. The whole family (and several family friends) are all lined up playing rounds of "knock out" with clays. An off duty cop here that's a friend to my cousin, freaks out when he sees me load 4+1 in my new 870. Tells me it's illegal even for clays. Says the game warden who lives down the road could cite me. It came with a plug not installed but included in the box. Something doesn't sound right. I told him I wasn't stopping participation and might put the plug in when I'm home.

What say you? Illegal? Or no?
A cop stopped me on the street and said "we're looking for a mugger who fits your description" , so I said "okay I'll do it".

I don't see how they can regulate a round limit at sport shooting

Sounds like ignorance of the law. You aren't hunting.

Many game wardens in Ky will even tell you the hunting magazine limit is 5 rounds when the law says 10. In other words, they don't know.

BTW: Is there a bag limit on clays? :llama:

Bet he would freak out if he saw me put 25 minishells into my KSG, 12 in each tube (2 tubes) plus 1 in the chamber.

This.

You're not going to find a statute that states there is no limit to the number of rounds you can load into your shotgun when you're not hunting.

If he wants to charge you, he's going to need to find the law he's talking about. Which doesn't exist.

His friend who was on the firing line just to the left of him said...

"He knows the law so you best believe him"

to which the off duty cop added

"I am the law...so trust me"

that's when I said I didn't give a shit about it enough to stop shooting. It's a family staple. He kept apologizing and saying he doesn't personally have a problem with it...says the neighbor warden does and has enforced it on others leaving this annual get together. It couldn't have been my family that got cited. It would have been a hot topic already. I didn't bother arguing. I just moved to his left on the firing line and knocked him out every round I could by picking off his clays that broke into big enough pieces to hit.
A cop stopped me on the street and said "we're looking for a mugger who fits your description" , so I said "okay I'll do it".

Well you are both wrong .....

KRS state that when shooting knockout clays , you must hold the shotgun over your head or put the buttstock on your nut sack, women are allowed a variance.
And you must shout "shit" instead of pull and you must wear clown shoes and a red clown nose.
