A group affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan wants to "adopt" a mile-long stretch of highway in Georgia.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Georgia Dept. of Transportation is currently reviewing the May 21 request--filed by International Keystone Knights of the KKK in Union County--to clean up part of Route 515 in the Appalachian Mountains in Blairsville.

"Any civic-minded organization, business, individual, family, city, county, state, or federal agency is welcome to volunteer in the Georgia Adopt-A-Highway program," according to the department's website.

The state attorney general's office is expected to decide Monday.

"We just want to clean up the doggone road," Harley Hanson, who filed the application, told the paper. "We're not going to be out there in robes."

But Rep. Tyrone Brooks, head of the Georgia Association of Black Elected Officials, called on state officials to reject the application.

"This is about membership building and rebranding their name in a public way," Brooks said. "What's next, are we going to let Neo-Nazis or the Taliban or al-Qaida adopt highways?"

"We are good, decent Christian Americans," Hanson, the group's "Exalted Cyclops," added. "What we're trying to do is to work with the local community."

It's not the first time the KKK has participated in an "Adopt-A-Highway" program.
In 2000, the KKK successfully "adopted" part of Interstate 55 south of St. Louis, after a federal judge ruled that the Missouri Dept. of Transportation could not keep the group out of the cleanup program.

The Georgia KKK group said they would file a lawsuit if the state rejects their application.

I don't see what all the fuss is all about.

Some people want to clean the highway. Just because they are part of a group that some may not favor because of their beliefs?

That's like saying the Democratic party wants to adopt a highway.

Shit out of there robes they are probably just as classy as the folks in my walmart from the 1st to the 10th. Let them do it, I dont care who adopts a hwy or a dog , or an Asian baby. Man wouldn't it be funny if it was Clayton bigsby

now if its white klans men on horse back with whips while black folks singing Christan songs do the actual work we may have some issues. The traffac accidents would be so bad

My point was he posted a link from a reputable source that covers the story..........he isn't trolling and making false statements backed up with BS links etc.........

Maybe I feel as if you spend more time lately trying to spin and create problems rather than contribute to the threads......just the way I see things as of late.......

If you really see no difference between various media outlets, then perhaps you should start using msnbc, or even better, how about AlJazeera for all your daily news?

I think some of you are misreading my intentions though. The reason I asked for a link was because your original posted article had two related articles in it :"[Related: Minority babies now a majority]" and "[Related: Ex-skinhead wins GOP post]"
I was simply wanting to see those articles and see which news outlet had those stories as related news. I wasn't trying to make any statement against you in any way.

I think you all are misunderstanding my intent, I don't care about the article at all. I am here because I enjoy the idea of seeing a" this mile of road adopted " sign and yelling racist slurs against the white man, at the pure breed white trash picking up trash. Or tilting my hat to the side with my bling , bumping hard core gangster rap and calling all my white trash buddies, my Niggaz while making cracker comments to the KKK guys picking up trash.

We can name highways Martin Luther King but KKK can't adopt a highway? I don't care if it is the Black Panthers etc if they actually are donating money and or cleaning up the highway. To add, I believe there should be no huge sign or advertising material posted more than the small sign showing who adopted like always (which nobody notices anyway).
