"Let them eat cake"
If times were not so lean many might not even notice this, but times aren't, so I think the People deserve to know if we are paying for a Chicago barber to be flown to DC two times a month for a hair cut of the Presidential Nap.
-------------
Finding and keeping a good hairdresser or barber can be a tough task — especially when relocating and attempting to find someone who can continue doing a decent job. But according to past and current reports, such a conundrum hasn’t been a problem for President Barack Obama, who allegedly flies his Chicago barber to Washington, D.C., twice per month to cut his hair. Despite this claim, which has been discussed in media before, it seems his barber, Zariff, is refusing to provide details about his arrangement with the White House.
Recently, German Public Radio repeated the claim that the barber, who has been cutting the president’s hair for nearly two decades, gets regularly flown to the capitol, at the tune of $300. Taken in their entirety, these trips may cost up to $7,200 each year. When contacted by the Daily Mail, Zariff was purportedly cryptic and refused to confirm the frequency of his visits to Washington. Additionally, he declined to delve into how the funds are allocated from the trips — by Obama or by the government.
“I get there. I keep his hair well groomed,” Zariff told the Daily Mail. “It’s not important how I get there and when.”
While it may not seem important on a small scale, the latter prospect of taxpayer funding for presidential haircuts, especially ones that include cross-country trips, would cause outrage among some Americans, especially at a time when calls for tax increases and spending cuts are commonplace. While Zariff wouldn’t delve into these details, he did tell the Daily Mail that he works diligently to make sure that Obama looks spiffy and “his best at all times.” He also highlighted that the services the president receives are oddly cheap.
“He pays $21 like everyone else. We don’t care about how famous you are or who you are,” the barber said. “Everyone gets the same price.”
Obamas Barber Who Comes to Washington Every Two Weeks Speaks OutZariff continued in his interview with the Daily Mail, claiming that Obama uses him because consistency is important. And because the president must look good, the barber believes that it‘s perfectly acceptable that he’d be chosen to continue working on Obama’s hair.
“If you go to three or four different barbers, your hair will look like you’ve been to three or four different barbers. I’m his only barber,” he said. “His hair is pretty consistent. It’s my job. As with anyone; they have to look their best at all times.”
And Obama’s hairstyle is a hot commodity, Zariff explained. The president‘s haircut is so popular that it’s on the establishment’s price list. Naturally, it’s called “The Obama.” The barber told Essence about this famed haircut back in 2009:
The Obama cut is a custom cut. It came about in 2004 when Mr. Obama came into the shop and said he was speaking at the Democratic National Convention that evening. So I had to make him look sharp. Before that he was wearing his hair longer and a little curlier. I took it down to a short cut, tapered on the sides, back and neck. I wanted it to look more natural.
Now, it‘s important to note that the president’s barber has been mentioned many times in media before. The U.K. outlet, Metro, reported on Zariff last year, claiming that he is, indeed, flown regularly to Washington, D.C. But the web site made sure to note back in July 2011 that this is done “at the president’s expense.”
At the end of the day, it would seem that any president engaging in such a regular transaction would spend his own personal money on it and, according to Metro, this is the case. This in mind, it‘s odd that Zariff wouldn’t have simply explained this in his interview with the Daily Mail.
And during a campaign where Ann Romney’s horse hobby is “exposed,” it could be said that, during a time of economic trouble, flying one’s barber to Washington every two weeks (pending the allegation is true) is, shall we say, out of the mainstream.

no one is DC has a pair of trimmers? No offense and nothing racist meant by this but it doesnt exactly take skill to cut hair that short.

Curious as too how much of our money he has spent on hair cuts, vacations, and golf outings. I havent had a vacation in 2.5 yrs, im not much for golf but i get out maybe once a year (the range is much more fun), and i cut my own hair with some trimmers. Must be nice to buy things on someone elses dime. ok rant over

If George Bush would have done anything like this it would be headline news.

IMO if Bush did half the stuff BO does he would have been drawn and quartered within his first year.Nolan wrote:If George Bush would have done anything like this it would be headline news.
Re: "Let them eat cake"
George w actually spent more on vacation related expenses than any other president in our history. It's laughable that someone could really say "If bush did this then he would be crucified by the media"?!
By 8-11, Obama had spent 70 days on vacation. At that same point in bush's first term, he had spent a whopping 255 days on vacation. And that was in the midst of post 9/11 stuff. Completely ridiculous.

Re: "Let them eat cake"
Yes but if you look into it his "vacations" were at his ranch in Texas in which most of the time he was still working. He had an office set up at the ranch where he could still do his work from there.

Ha. Ha.
George W. Bush spent 879 days at his Crawford Ranch. This doesn't mean this was a vacation for him, he constantly flew in staff members, held press conferences, and met with 18 world leaders at the ranch.

Re: "Let them eat cake"
regardless of who took how many vacation days, most americans get 1 week of vaca a year, if that. Why does our pres and other politicians get months worth of vaca? O yea because they wrote the laws saying they could. Its appauling how detached they are from reality(not just BO and liberals, although i think he pushes the envelope as much as he can, but all of them).

Re: "Let them eat cake"
Lio, How many vacations did Former First Lady Bush take compared to the ones (on the taxpayer dime) that the current one takes?
Aldo, it has been hashed out on multiple news sources that Bush did "work form home" quite a bit at his ranch. He was not taking a separate plane than the wife to Martha's Vineyard.
Although I know that you were responding to a post here, the OP was really about the fact that the citizenry MAY be paying for Obama to fly in a guy to cut his hair. Guess that does not piss you off as much as Bush working from his ranch?

Re: "Let them eat cake"
No it doesnt Piss me off at all because the article itself admits that they don't even know for sure if taxpayer money is paying for flying that barber to Obama. As far as anyone knows, Obama is paying out of his pocket (read: salary) for that.
Anyone who believes that bush was actually "working" from home is a testament to how clever the Karl rove misinformation propaganda machine really was. I guess Karl
Rove really did bank on the fact thT there are many fools in the American populous.

Re: "Let them eat cake"
So you are basically saying I am a fool for believing what they have shown more than once about Bush? The fact that he had his ranch networked the same as his office at the white house so he could do his work from somewhere beside washington?
I guess in your mind that means the average joe cant telecommute to work. Or basically that if I say I work from home everyday I am full of shit......

I don't assume that Obama is not working from Air force One, or Kenya, or Martha's Vineyard so why would I assume that any other President is not working just because they are not in the oval office? Although I do believe there are many fools in the American populace (after all Obama was elected) I do not believe that I am one (or you either for that matter unless you honestly think that the President actually gets a vacation from his job regardless of his location.
As far as vacations go, I am much more pissed about Michelle taking trips in government aircraft under the guise of official business with her entourage than I am about any trips Obama takes.
AND...if you refer once again to the OP, I think you will see that I believe that the American public has the right to know if he is spending our money on such a useless expense. No, we don't know for sure and I think it needs public clarification.

Re: "Let them eat cake"
they might not know for sure its taxpayer money, but i would bet my left nut in some way or another we are paying his barber.
Lio, so you will believe obama is paying this barber out of pocket with no evidence one way or the other, but you refuse to believe, given undeniable evidence, that bush worked from his ranch..........and we are the fools??????

agreed, but he also has people who somehow worked the numbers to say he was the most fiscally responsible president in 60 years......anything is possible with Obama.dbh wrote:I finally agree with Lio on something: "there are many fools in the American populous"
Why else would BO have the poll numbers he has now??
Re: "Let them eat cake"
I didn't say I believe that Obama pays out of his pocket for his barber. I said that there is no way of knowing. I am a man of science in that I require some sort of evidence or rationale before believing something. I very rarely take things at face value.

Yet you are wiling to believe that other President's don't work if they are not in the Oval Office. In fact you said anyone was a fool who believed that bush worked while at his ranch.
Please provide scientific proof to refute the evidence posted above about Bush working from there.
