They are, unfortunately, right about it being worse this summer. For a variety of reasons.

Stepping up my own security and awareness level and wish I did not have to be in that part of town as much as I do over the next few weeks.

The problem with that line of thinking is that it's not always the guilty that end up being victims; sometimes innocent bystanders get caught in the crossfire and surely you don't condone that, do you? You make it sound like every west end resident is a low life, murderous thug or drug pusher.
