Perhaps the NPS is still embarrassed over the treatment they got in Congress when the sequester was the word of the day. The head of the agency got raked over the grills about something involving a lot of money.

Earlier this week the NPS barricaded the parking lots at Mount Vernon. They apparently weren't aware of the fact that they don't operate the facility, which receives no government funding.

The owner gave up, I guess because his contract expires this year. They were fully booked for the month of Oct too.

Sucks because we are heading to that area for a weeks vacation next weekend. Some of the places we had planned to visit around the Mt. Mitchell area are closed. The trails are still open but will have to hike in further since the visitor centers/parking lots are closed.

Obama is violating the #1 rule of ruling: the people must have their bread and circuses. National Parks are a popular holiday destination because they are free (admission at least). My family had to save for two years to afford a trip to Utah this summer. It's making lots of folks angry.
