Don't mess with Kentucky

KY leads nation in NICS checks
http://dailycaller.com/2013/01/03/the-l ... most-guns/
If we use the National Instant Criminal Background Check System , or NICS, as a proxy for gun sales we see that Kentucky is the runaway leader in gun sales for 2012.

Four states exceeded one million Federal Bureau of Investigation NICS checks; Kentucky, Texas, California and Illinois. Kentucky is the only state to exceed two million background checks.

Background checks are only a proxy measure for gun sales. A buyer may purchase more than one gun through a gun dealer, depending on the local laws, once the background check comes back authorizing the purchase.

The list of states and their 2012 total NICS background checks is compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

State and Total NICS checks for 2012:

My question is whether or not they accounted for the monthly NICS checks that Kentucky runs on all CCDW holders.

good question, but they also didn't count the CCDW holders that don't require NICS check for purchases which I think is the same in TX

Ky does background checks on CCDW holders monthly.
Kentucky NICS checks: 2012 2,589,358
Total pop 2012: 4,380,415

That's a lot of BG checks if they didn't include the monthly CCDW ones. :?
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

I bought 10 firearms last year, 4 FTF and 6 from dealers. No background checks with CCDW license.

Illinois and California in top 4. That's weird. I thought they didn't allow guns :llama:

Kentucky had 2,589,358 NICS background checks for gun purchases in 2012. Over a million more than the next closest state, yet the gun murder rate is the lowest in the nation at less than 0.004 %...

District of Columbia only had 449 back ground checks and their gun murder rate is the nations highest at 17.149%..

GUNS KILL PEOPLE.. at our rate there should literally be at least one gun for every person living in this state meaning we should ALL be dead

Kentucky leads the way--also have lowest percentage of gun murder rates--maybe Indiana needs to pay close attention to how you all roll

Where are you guys getting that we have the lowest gun murder rate? I just did a quick google and according to wikipedia we're nowhere near the bottom of the list- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_violen ... s_by_state

Edit: here's another one- http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/datablog ... state#data

Don't trust Wiki for correct stats, but you are right we are not the lowest in the country.

The lowest in the country are CERTAINLY not the ones who outlaw guns in the hands of the law abiding citizenry though.

If I have a gun transferred to my FFL dealer outside of Kentucky, who does the NICS check? My FFL? or the vendor that I'm purchasing from?
