LED spotlights

I have an old 2million candle power spotlight that's crapping out. I know there's not really a good representation of candle power to lumens. But, what would be a good rechargeable led spot light or flashlight that would let me see basically the same area. No $200+ dollar lights. I'm not trusting my life with it or anything. Just a light I use to let my dog out when it's dark and keep an eye out for coyotes and skunks and shit like that.

I use my Fenix UC35 and love it. Its about $100 on amazon. 5 different settings plus strobe. On turbo (higher than high lol) it will last about 1.5 to 2 hrs. I usually recharge it about every 10-12 days and use it for letting the dogs out and looking around the back yard at night and misc other stuff. Its too big to carry IMO but works great for round the house type stuff. USB rechargable battery or 2 CR123's work in them also.

Turbo is 960 lumens i believe. Cant remeber but settings are about 180, 320, 500, 720, 960 or something like that. I can use only level 3 for most anything within 20-30 ft and the 960 lights up my back yard like its daytime.

I'd like to see out to about 100-150 yards.

Im sure it will reach that far but not great. From my patio to the back of my yard is probably 150 - 200 ft and i can see that far with it just fine but then it hits woods so i cant really say much past that distance.

I can. I used my UC35 as a search/spot light this entire past summer, two or three nights per week for an hour or two each time. Inside of 100 yards night turns to day. Out to I'd say at least 300 you can see what you're looking at. It would cause eyes to shine at every distance I had available, probably out to 500 yards.

Battery life was good enough that I could charge it weekly and be fine, but I charge it after every use. I'd buy at least one more 18650 to have chargedecent and on hand for when you inevitably forget to charge the light or leave it on. I've had great luck with Orbtronic, available on Amazon at a higher mAh (capacity) than the stock battery.

It gets very hot on turbo/high, and will automatically go to the next setting down if it gets too hot. You might have the battery capacity to run turbo for 1-2hrs, but I bet it doesn't last more than ten minutes of constant on because of the heat.

The charging port cover feels kind of flimsy, though mine hasn't been damaged through personal or military use yet. The light is waterproof without the cover. It's mostly to protect the port from debris. The mode selector button glows in the dark if it has been in light before the dark. It's always been bright enough for me to find in pitch darkness. The size of the light is small enough to fit comfortably in your hand and regular sized pockets, and it won't drag your pants to the ground under its weight.

Overall I consider it a good purchase and fantastic value.

Any opinions of the next brighter one, UC40 I think. It says 3000 lumen, and it's just a little more cost.

Pretty much...haha The runtime on that last one is MUCH better than the smaller ones on the brighter settings.

She'll screw around for 5-10 min sometimes before she does her business.

PD40R uses a much, much less common battery (more expensive, doesn't fit in common chargers) that I'm not interested in dealing with. Non-starter. It's also fatter and less likely to fit in a pocket. But it sure is bright as hell.

LD60 is practically as big around as a beer can, is brighter than the UC35, dimmer than the PD40R, doesn't have onboard charging. Power options are very versatile. Use any number of 18650's and any even number of CR123's. You'll need to buy a multi-bay charger. I use the Nitecore D4, digital charger with 4 bays, cheap.

I'd just buy the UC35, but you do you.

Good info. I'll definitely skip on the PD40R hearing that. The size doesn't bother me because other than 10 min a day it will sit on my kitchen counter. The brightness and run time is awesome on the LD60, that's what I like about it. I'm using a big ass old school spot light now, so even the LD60 is micro compared to it...haha

Then as long as you don't mind having to use an external charger, go for the LD60.
