15/22 or 10/22 or other?

Post by Till » Thu Mar 07, 2013 7:11 pm

What's your pick and why?

I have a 15/22 thinking of mixing it up, think I'm just having ADHD but figured I'd make it a open discussion.

I didn't see any other threads like this so if there are just point me that direction and sorry for making another one!

Also thought of the 10/22 break down for a easy bag gun but somebody who has one said they are not as accurate. I don't know though never had hands on time with one.

Don't know about the one your friend has. The 10/22 TD I have is a freakin tack driver out of the box. 25 yards (with a scope) was one ragged hole.

But, If I was going to buy a new 22LR long gun I would get one of the Marlin 795's. It is basically a Marlin 60 that is magazine fed vs tube fed.

I'll look into the Marlin 795 thanks

It's a rare occassion to find a 10/22 that isn't much more accurate than then shooter using it. The Marlins are always a good choice, I have loved my model 60 for over 40 years. It was my first real rifle, bought with grass cutting money. That one now belongs to my brother, and my nephew is learning on it, as we did. The one I have now is a stainless model 60 in a Boyd's thumbhole stock and it is a true tack driver. All of my 10/22's (5 @ last count, including 2 10/22 Magnums) are absolute one hole group beasts, but none of them are stock, nor have they been for many years. It's real easy to spend way more on a 10/22 than you really should.

My choice for a semi-auto is the 10/22.

Biggest reason: the rotary magazine. Magazines are a weak spot for all semi-autos that fire rimmed cartridges, but the Ruger design elegantly sidesteps the issue.

Secondary reason: finding parts will never be a problem.

Downside: as has already been mentioned, it's too easy to modify. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting someone who owns a 10/22 that has twice as much money sunk into it than it's worth. ;)

Just get a Marlin 60 $150 done.
There are criminals among us who are both homicidal and incorrigible. Their parents took a shot at civilizing them and failed. Their school teachers took a shot at them and failed. The odds are overwhelming that government welfare programs and penal institutions took a shot at them and failed. If it ever becomes your turn to take a shot at them, don’t fail.

Own a Marlin 60, love it. Also want a 10/22
