Go big baby: pick your goto .22 rifle
Love my Remington 597 .22 rifle as it is very accurate and reliable with new olquartsen extractor.

other....i chose the Henry lever action. Just like traditional weapons and actions that have stood the test of time.

I have about half a dozen 22's, mostly a bunch of old one and the Ruger. With the trigger job and a few other inexpensive mods I shoot it better than anything else I own.

Re: Go big baby: pick your goto .22 rifle
The timing for this is impeccable. I just finished bedding my newest 22. It is a Remington model 504. It is a beautiful rifle, at first it shot decent (1" at 50 yards ). As of today, it shoots nice round groups of nickle to dime size at 50 yards. I love it when a project comes together as hoped.

Marlin 60 because mine's been running great for 25yrs and I really don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to trick out a 22 rifle

To be "versatile" it needs to fire *any* .22 ammo. This means a lever or bolt gun (or, for handguns, a revolver). My "go to" .22s are a Henry lever action and a S&W Model 63.

Re: Go big baby: pick your goto .22 rifle
I picked "Something Else", not because of any dislike for any of the choices, but because any of my many .22 rifles, SA, bolt, lever, regardless, would be a solid, accurate, reliable rifle I can depend on.
If pressed, the one I'd likely grab first would be one of the 8 10/22 rifles I have built over the years (that I still have, the rest having been given to my wife, brothers, or my son). Everyone I love & care about has one.

Re: Go big baby: pick your goto .22 rifle
I had to pick 10/22.
They're easy to work on, easy to find parts for and you can make them what ever you want. If you want a target gun this week and a tacticool the next it's easy. I've got Marlin 60's too and they are probably more accurate out of the box than .22 that I've had. They aren't as easy to do mods on IMHO. The trigger group is harder to take apart with all the e-clips and just isn't as modular. That's what makes the Ruger so appealing to me.

I still gotta go with the Marlin 60, it has never let me down. It shoots any ammo I feed it, will even cycle some sub-sonic rounds.
Oh, how so high they fly........ only further to fall.

Re: Go big baby: pick your goto .22 rifle
I've always been partial to my Marlin 60. It wasn't expensive and is a real tack driver. A speed loader is fairly easy to make from a scrap of pvc w/ 2 caps a handful of those fat straws from the golden arches. Maybe not tacticool but effective.
