Read an article on it recently in the Aug. 2012 issue of Shooting Times. They list the weight as 32.75 ounces empty. For comparison (from the article) a Taurus PT1911AL aluminum frame unit weighs 33 ounces and a "normal" steel frame unit comes in at 36-38 ounces.

So you are getting aluminum frame weight without the aluminum frame CONS. Maybe not a bad idea for a duty gun.

I would tend to believe that if polymers were as good back in JMB's day he would have done innovative things with it then. I am sure the purist's will be pissy anyway. I might buy one just to get their blood pressure up...

The article shows an MSRP of $800. I'm guessing a real-world price in the $650-$700 range.

Plastic 1911's are not new.
I am NOT a plastic pistol fan. Yes it is PLASTIC -you can use polymer if you want but that's just a fancy name for PLASTIC!!

Having said that....I owned a BUL M5 compact - made in Israel, where they know a little bit about weapons, and it was an awesome gun. Its a plastic framed 1911, but where it differs from other plastic pistols is they used a metal insert for the rails.
Kimber imported them and sold them as under their brand as well as Wilson Combat a few years back. Charles Daly imported them until they went belly up. I'm not sure who's bringing them in now, if anyone.

And as pointed out in another forum these are polymers which have filler mixed with the resin.
Plastic is a monomer.
