Have been looking for a used Wilson Combat CQB for a couple of months. Found one locally but the store wants WAY too much for it in its present condition.
On a whim I called Whittaker Guns and though they did not have a used CQB they did have a used Nighthawk Custom Falcon. So this past Saturday my wife and I took a trip to Owensboro.
I had the cash with me to make the purchase. I had it in my hands, racked the slide a few times, tried the trigger, etc. I wanted to be WOWED by this pistol. I was expecting to be wowed by this pistol. For some reason I was not. I think it was the grip. Something seemed off. I could not get my hand as high into the beavertail as I wanted, and quite honestly tried hard enough that the webbing between my thumb and index finger was starting to hurt a bit. Also the grips seemed too large.
So it stayed at Whittakers. Maybe, if it is still there is a few weeks I'll go back and try again. Or maybe I'll just go back to trying to find a CQB.
Nighthawk Custom Falcon - not for me??
Re: Nighthawk Custom Falcon - not for me??
That’s the main reason I sold my Wilson CQB. It just didn’t impress me at twice the price of a TRP. I’d rather have a couple nice ones over one “really” nice one.
Nighthawks seem nice. But their price is way up there.

My old Dan Wesson Pointman felt better in my hands than any other 1911 I've ever handled. For that matter, any other pistol I've ever handled... It was incredible!
Also in my experience I've always done MUCH better on deals when my mind was open. The more narrow or specific my search, the worse deal I end up getting. I usually liked my unplanned purchase better also since I was getting what felt right and not what I was wanting or trying to make right just because I got in my mind that that was what I wanted. Just my opinion... Good luck in whatever you end up with!

Interesting that you say this. I recently bought a used Dan Wesson Specialist and it is I think the best feeling 1911 that I own. I was comparing the grip of the Specialist to the grip of the NH Falcon and the Falcon was coming up short.Niceguy wrote:My old Dan Wesson Pointman felt better in my hands than any other 1911 I've ever handled. God made man.
Samuel Colt made all men equal.
John M. Browning and the 1911 made some men more equal than others.
