My Desert Warrior clone 1911
Here's my Citadel with a new paint job.
KG Gun Kote in flat light tan. The gun was parked from the factory which is the perfect base for the paint. I left the small parts black.
I rounded off the 90 degree point on the thumb safeties- I need to re-finish those still...
I'm not sure which grips to go with. I thought about painting the dimpled ones black too...

Paint grips black. Love the color combo too, need another 1911...

What SNL said. Or touch em up with some cold blue but it'll wear off too.
How about Hogue or Pachmayer wraparound grips? Just so happens I've got a spare set of each. Hogues has finger grooves, Pachs don't. They are what I've got on my most-used pistol, really good grip.

Did you coat it yourself? I have watched videos have almost "pulled the trigger". If I do, I will try a beater, a shooter but one that could use a facelift. I suppose I could contract the services of Armor Hyde or the Crankmeister if I totally botch it. Yours appears to be a nice result. Thanks in advance for the info. Geno

Re: My Desert Warrior clone 1911
every bit myself- disassemble, de-grease, pre-heat, spray on (I used a $20 HF spray gun), bake in oven to harden...reassemble.
easy peasy...well, getting the sights off and back on are the hard parts...
KG GunKote is by far the best and easiest I used- Duracoat is thick...

Re: My Desert Warrior clone 1911
I cut a metal hanger up to fab some 3" long 'S' hooks, and hung it off the rack. For the frame I ran it through the MSH pin hole, for the slide I put it in the firing pin hole from underneath. -I used these to hang it to spray, too.
By the way, the KG GunKote is the cheapest, including shipping, of the 'paints'. I've domne DuraCoat, KG and Norrels' Moly Resin. The KG was the easiest to spray and the cheapest, so that's what I'll use from now on.
Plus they'll mail you a metal color sample of any colors for free.
