Errand Gun?
Errand Gun?
Since the Glock 19 serves my needs 99.9% of the time, I've been interested in a smaller gun that can serve as an errand piece, especially in the summer time.
I'm conflicted between a J-frame and an all-steel automatic, like a Makarov. Again, more of a BUG/quick-trip-to-the-store-and-it's-100%-humidity gun.
The J-frame appeals to be because you can get those neat hip-grips and wear it without a holster, but the learning curve is really high. On top of that, I prefer all-steel revolvers, which aren't cheap.
I've never filled this niche in my armed life before, so I'll be grateful for any thoughts you have to share.

Re: Errand Gun?
J frame...hands down. It lies at the intersection of the concealability/reliability/effectiveness curves.
The learning curve isn't as steep as you might think, and the leaning process will help your trigger control on all platforms.
Finally, they're expensive because they're worth it.

I carry a J frame year round.
Every once in a while I will carry the HK. But the J frame is the CC goto gun.

I can tell you about a J frame .357 Magnum Titanium weight (11.5 oz)

I have a Sig P238 and a Guru Dave wallet holster with a fake zipper top. It fits very nice in my hip pocket and looks like a wallet with a zipper. I haven't found anything else as handy as this and still have confidence I can defend myself. I carry the Buffalo Barnes 80 grain +P all copper ammo.

After months of waiting my Andrews Carjacker came in and I use it in my car and truck when I am driving out of town. It fits my SigP229 .357 Sig perfect. It snaps either to my belt or seatbelt for a fast easy cross draw. I had driving in Louisville in mind when I bought the Andrews holster. There is no faster draw when sitting.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I grab my bodyguard .380 in a desantis nemis holster. front pocket or cargo pocket, its comfortable in either one. the holster is a man made material and provides decent sweat protection.

Re: Errand Gun?
My P938 Extreme is only very rarely not on my person. I quit carrying it in my hip pocket after installing the SIG laser on it, because it no longer fit in the Nemesis I have for it, which worked famously for just the pistol and was my preferred carry mode. I am currently carrying it in an Alienware IWB hybrid, which is secure, easy to wear, and comfortable, but sometimes a little bulky.
I am calling Guru tomorrow to order a new zipper top holster that will also accomodate the laser. The main reason it didn't work before was that the top of the grip and nitesight was visible in my back pocket. With the guru, it looks like I can go back to my preferred method of carry, reserving the IWB for something heavier & larger, with more capacity. What's the old saying? "One is none and two is one"? This will allow me to go heavier while spreading the load, some.
Thanks for posting that!

Re: Errand Gun?
UPDATE
After carrying the 36 for awhile, I have realized that I cannot carry it IWB unless I want to clean it every single day, because it will rust with the slightest exposure to liquid. Therefore, it's going to be a pocket gun only. I'm looking for a 640 to use the clip grips.

You won't hear me dissing the 640 (I have two of them), but before you give up on the 36 try a light coat of Renaissance Wax. Turtle Wax in a pinch.
