having bought this new (to me) BAR.....

Post by Wyldman » Sat Aug 17, 2013 10:42 am

What scope should I put on it? I have been considering a Vortex 10x fixed, but am open to suggestions. Don't worry about the expense, just tell me what glass you would want if it was yours and why you would want that particular scope, please.

I'd be using that BAR for hunting so a fixed 10x would be too much scope for me. I like the Elite 4200's, and one of my favs for hunting is the 1.25-4 variable with germ #4 & red dot, I even like it on one of the AR's.
Longer ranges will need more magnification, and also just seeing what she is capable of it would be nice to have a Elite 4200 6-24x50 or something better even, it's just I've had good luck with these and price point is reasonable for the quality you get.

Old eyes need good, powerful glass.

Just your classic 3-9x , its a hunting rifle so that should be plenty. Brand really comes down to what you want to spend, on of the redfield revolution scopes would probably fit the bill just fine. A nice tooled leather sling , something with the classic acorn oak leaf , deer head type stuff.

My BAR 7mm REM MAG had a Nikon Monarch on it when I bought it that was a 4x16 which just seemed a little much for me. Sold that scope and put a Vortex Diamondback 3x9x40 on it and was just fine.

The Monarch was pretty nice, but the Vortex seemed a little more solid and the glass was clearer at about half to cost of the Nikon. Never had a Nikon before that one to give any pros or cons, but the Vortex items I have have all been solid and have taken some abuse.

The warranty is a good selling point too.
