They are nice. For their power they don't make much noise, about as much as a Red Ryder. Doesn't have the crack to it like other high powers.

Does the barrel bulge at the end do anything or is it looks? Is it just a quiet air piston?

Which model?i have a silent cat.....not so silent.the bull whisper model is quieter.after more research & shooting a friends i would go w this http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Benjamin_ ... j-Trail-NP its about $50 more than a silent cat but not much more than a gamo bull whisper.and is QUIET.you can pick all of these up @ wal marts in Louisville.the one in fern creek usually has them.if you dig around on the link they actually list how loud a certain one is.[my silent cat is a spring gun.the bw & ben trail use pistons]also i would stay away from the new fad "ballistic" ammo.it goes fast enough for a "crack" which dosent help if youre trying to be quiet.& i'm reading they can actually hurt the rifling

I was actually wondering about this. my new yard is nice and long and has some what of a berm already. was going to expand it and add a pellet trap. what is a good basic BB gin/ pellet gun. I used to have a daisy grizzly that was nice anything cheap come to mind that isnt too loud. doesnt have to be able to kill rabbits or anything just paper and maybe a starling

This one comes to mind right of the top of my head http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Ruger_Exp ... 16#Reviews its only 495fps but i have shot one before & it is quiet.hell if your neighbors were outside unless they see you i bet theyd never know you were shooting.or you could go with the crosman 1377 pistol http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Crosman_1377C_PC77/198 its not AS quiet as the rifle above but its still pretty quiet.you can buy a stock for it as well & it basically become a short rifle

Sorry.i realize you asked about a bb\pellet gun.to be honest w you most of the ones ive shot are pellet only.[although you can shoot bbs thru the 1377 ive heard its bad for the barrel]maybe a crosman 760?you might get away w that one according to where you live[country vs city] http://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/Crosman_7 ... master/339 if you look in the first column of specs on the ones you pull up on p.a. they have a "loudness" rating.of course thats all subjective.its really hard to get a spring gun to be quiet.youll always have the twang from the spring.pistons are much, much quieter
