Savage project

So I've started a little project and trying my hand at a poor man's bolt action build. My platform I'm starting with is an old savage 110FP in .308. So far I've shot some cheap 147g ppu ammo through it and it only grouped at 1.5" - 2" at 100 yards. I also got a box of federal premium gold metal match 168g and got that to group at about .8" for a 5 shot group. It seemed like once the barrel warmed up a little the point of impact shifted some but the groups were more consistent. I've just got a vortex diamondback on it for now. The rifle seems to have potential so I have a choate tactical (not the thumb hole stock) stock on order that I'm gonna put it in and see if it helps at all. My next goal will be to send the stock to cdi to put a DBM on it that'll take AI style mags. After that it'll be a good scope and better trigger. Possibly a barrel swap but I wanna see what it does in a better stock and with better glass before I look at a new barrel. Anyone else ever mess around with the savage rifles before and do the whole barrel swap thing?

Good luck on the build I have a savage fcp10-Sr that shoots 4" groups with cheap factory ammo and .5" with hand loads it's all factory I really like it.
